Microsoft is Losing $300 on Every 360 Purchased - And You Wondered Why It was So Hard to Get One
Continuing the long tradition of throwing money into a pit for the sake of bragging rights, Joystiq is reporting the 360 costs $715 to manufacture. When you figure the super-duper-OMG-supreme version or whatever costs $399, that's a massive amount of cash to lose, just to make a sale. But this seems to be a popular profit model; Sony and MS both lost cash on every console sold last generation, too. But what about Nintendo, you ask? Oh, they profited on their GameCubes.
