Star Wars Galaxies: Interview with Adam "Argyle" Davidson on the IDE from Chilastra Galaxy

Bloodraven:
Where did you come up with the idea to do a piece of art of this magnitude?
Argyle:
Well, Rhy has always had an X-wing vs. TIE fighter battle in his house, and joked that he wished the Star Destroyer Hologram would fit in some way. One day, he just said "Lets do it." I've had a fair bit of experience with decorating in SWG in the past, so I offered to help out.

Bloodraven:
How many players were involved with the assembly?
Argyle:
Just the two of us.

Bloodraven:
How many pieces did it take to make the Star Destroyer Model?
Argyle:
We managed to keep it down to about 250-300 items for the ISD itself, leaving the rest for TIE/X-wing miniatures, and laser bolts, battle damage, etc.

Bloodraven:
How long did it take for the model to be assembled?
Argyle:
Took us about 2 days for the ISD itself, with another day or so fine tuning , making factory runs, and choreographing the battle overhead.

Bloodraven:
Do you plan on keeping it there for long term or is this a short term display?
Argyle:
Oh, this Baby's going nowhere.

Bloodraven:
Do you have any future plans on making other models?
Argyle:
We have a few ideas that we're working on, but we've kind of shot ourselves in the foot now, if its not better than, or at least comparable to the ISD, we probably won't publish it.

Bloodraven:
When you first started was this a smaller model that just grew large scale or was it always intended to be of this size?
Argyle:
No, it was always intended to be this size. The X-wing and TIE fighter Veteran Rewards were always going to be way too big for anything we could put in a house, so we just made it as big as possible.

Bloodraven:
How did your guild mates and fellow citizens react to having this
marvel in their city?
Argyle:
Lets just say the response has been nothing but positive. I'm the Mayor of Tus'kens Bane also, so I was fortunate enough to convince a CSR to pack up some condemned buildings next to the shuttleport for the ISD's prime spot.

Bloodraven:
Any suggestions or tips for anyone else that might want to attempt
a model design like this in the future?
Argyle:
Well, until they fix the non-combat targeting system, or toolbar macros I'd suggest making a set of aliases to make the moving easier. I made /mf, /mb, /mu, /md for moving forward, back, up, down, and /rl, /rr for rotating left/right. You can also combine these commands with a semi-colon, and you won't have to re-acquire the object with your cursor. Also, know your resources. We often spend hours just browsing the bazaars for new artwork to use. Once you find stuff there, obviously you've got to figure out where it comes from. Lol.

Bloodraven
Any final comments you would like to make regarding your artwork or in general?
Argyle:
We'd just like to thank everyone for their kind comments, everyone who donated fighter Miniatures, and everyone who made components for us. Look forward to more of our work... if we can beat the ISD, that is.

I'd like to thank Argyle for the time he took out of his busy schedule to answer our questions and, I'd like to wish him and Ryl all the best in any future home decor they attempt, and please let me know so I can drop by :P
