The face noodles, for lack of a better term, are more apparent on the males, and have a fairly wide range of sizes to select - falls under facial hair, I believe. As for the horns, both males and females have a wide range of sizes and styles, though I don't recall being able to make them small enough to make them disappear, as you can with the Trolls'. But, the horns fit them well, so it's not a biggie if you dislike them. And Mojo, I certainly wasn't saying that I think Trolls are ugly. I have a lady Troll I like very much, which is part of the reason I was pleasantly surprised, I suppose. :)

I agree. I happen to like the way trolls look, actually.. but up until the addition of Blood Elves, some of the female trolls happen to be the only Hordies that even closely resemble a conventionally attractive person. I actually think that Night Elves are pretty homely. I know that's bordering on sacrilege.. but honestly: the ears are absurd and NE females have man-hands. ;) |

How I Mine 4 Fish? Posts: 74 Joined: 2 Nov 2006 | I like the Draenei but they need a little work. Their tails don't look good, they need to give them back the long gracefull tails they had before instead of the short little nubs they have now. Also a number of their animations, including their swimming animation, seem too rigid and... unrealistic. They just need to go in a breath a little more life into them. |

Ditto. I wouldn't mind the longer, more sleek-looking tails on the females and bulkier and a tad bit longer tails on the males... I'm neither here nor there on the swimming animations as I don't spend enough time swimming for it to matter....or perhaps even 2 added sliders for Draenei...tail length and bulk. I'd vote for that. I think that both the draenei and the blood elves are missing something key, however, in their design segment. Both have an interestingly limited amount of face choices that are actually different enough to take note of, unlike just about every other race. I also wish there was a tad bit greater range of skin and hair colors (and hair options for blood elves...females, anyway; for a change, males have plenty of choices when it comes to blood elves). At any rate, I haven't played enough with the character creator to make complete assessments of all the options, but this is where I personally stand now: There's many imporvements over the older race options, the characters are smoother, nicer, and more configurable overall than some. However, there's plenty of room for improvement without making it overly bulky... |
Apprentice Posts: 4 Joined: 7 Nov 2006 | It's not that the Horde is an ugly race... the male characters look undeniably awesome. They are supposed to be the "evil" faction (and I am aware of WC lore and how they aren't really evil, but I mean if you HAD to define a good/evil... it's pretty obvious WoW designers made the horde out to be the bad guys). However, where do the females fit into the equation? Most people want "pretty" females. But most characteristics of the horde aren't pretty. They are supposed to be crude and... well... evil! We mostly define villains to be ugly and the good guys to be good looking. If they were pretty, they wouldn't be evil! I think that was the point of making Blood Elves... to put a "pretty" race on the horde side to balance things out as far as aethestics goes. I reckon draenei were supposed to be "evil" and/or chaotic looking ... but they still had to be "alliance evil" (tm!) so they are basically big demons splashed with happy colors. /spiel |

The Draenei Looks
I set out to create Caolinn, who was to be a female Draenei, with a little concern. I'm not a fan of playing an "ugly" character. I have to look at this chick a lot, so it's nice to not be repulsed every time I look at her. So, after having heard that the Draenei were "ugly monster things," I naturally was not looking forward to it.
However, when I got into character creation, I found that the Draenei were obviously a very proud race, and carried themselves very well. This always improves one's appearance, so things were looking up. I proceeded to choose a priest and started picking skin color and face styles.
I've played a couple of trolls, and so found the skin color selection very familiar, as it ranged from pale blue-green to blue to an almost soft violet color. The hair colors, however, were not quite so festive as the Trolls, with many "normal" hair colors as choices. When I got to the styles, I was also pleasantly surprised that they weren't a bunch of spikey, freaky looks. In fact, some were downright adorable - pigtails?
I ended up going with a fresh-from-the-salon, vaguely vampy, dark brown head of hair, nicely accented with a pair of large upcurved horns. And I made sure to choose a face style that kept the face noodles to a minimum. Nice.
