Warrior - what race to choose?

I am a newbie in WoW and I wish to start a Warrior class, because it looks to me the most simple to use...

So I looked through the race choices and it seems that the undead and tauren are the best race choices for a warrior...

Undead have

1. Will of the Forsaken - makes you immune to Fear/Sleep/Charm for 5 secs... can be used when feared/slept to break these effects (or at least that is what it supposed to do according to description)... I am coming from Lineage 2 and there was ann issue with mages owning everything with sleep, so I have a trauma from those times... Besides, I think this skill can be quite useful on PvP...

2. Cannibalize - heals 35% of HP by consuming humanoid/undead corpses lasts 10 secs... since warriors do not have self heals - this seems to be a nice addition... Are there any humanoid/undead monsters in the game, so cannibalize could be used in PvE?

3. 10% Shadow Resistance - as much as I understand - shadow magic is the most dangerous one, so having resist to it is nice... am I right?

Tauren have

1. War Stomp - sounds like a pretty impressive skill... mass stun...

2 +5% HP... since a warrior seems to have a lot of HP, then this will definately give some nice bonus... at least that is what I think will be...

Now again... I remind you that I am a WoW n00b and definately don't know much (if anything) about this game... all I ask is what race is better for Warrior? Undead or Tauren?

I dunno it really doesnt matter in the end game but I tried Tauren,Orc,UD.

Ok I used Orc...reason #1 Hardiness ..high resistance to stuns (stuns own people in the pvp) #2 axe skill your accuracy is way better with axes and the best warrior weapon end game is the Arcanite Reaper 2 handed axe born from hells ass.  So thats another advantage. And orcs just look good in armor.

Tauren would be my second choice. Wartomp and the extra stamina.

UD would be my last...UD seem to be made for being a Priest or Rogue to me.

I think pick the race you like because in the end it doesnt matter very much.  The racial traits are just perks.

Orcs are best for warriors on the horde side imo. Their racial skills give them a nice advantage. Id be with the horde but personally, I dont like the horde's quests and starting places. Seems... dull. That's why I went with Humans... I'm a big fan of humans ^^ but then who isnt... and if your going to say that you arnt, just commit suicide right now or tatoo yourself all green or whatever color you want and call yourself an orc like the lizardman. But seriously, in the long run, perception will give you a HUGE advantage. I'm in a pvp server right now and there are a LOT of rogues and they all like to go around stealthed and ambush you and first sign of someone stealthed (you can usually hear them going stealth) use perception and charge at them. Its a great skill to have imo. They also have some nice passive skills that helps you around the world as well and spirit is a pretty big deal for some.

Im a noob to and i gotta say tauren or orc is going to be my choice of character, probably orc because they look awsome, face the truth a tauren doesnt really look good in armour normally.

There is a lot of variety when it comes to races. Many people will tell you that when it comes to end-game that racial bonuses don't make a big difference. I won't comment on whether that is true or not, but I'll try to give my take. I myself am asking this question for when the new rp-pvp servers are released.

There is more than just racial bonuses that will affect how your warrior turns out. In fact, "turning out" is a vague concept at best. Some races are better suited for PvE while others are better for PvP. However, someone with a race better for PvE with a PvP talent build and who knows how to play their character is likely just as good as any other option. Warriors are heavily gear dependent. It's not just good gear either. If you want to be really good at a task (like PvP or tanking PvE) then you will want the best gear for that task as well as talents that augment your personal player skills, racial attributes, and situation. The end result is that any choice is a good one overall and you should play what you are most interested in. If you hate hot dry places, don't play a troll or an orc. If you don't like cold, perhaps stay away from dwarves and gnomes. If the horde is outnumbered on your server perhaps only consider horde races, etc. (i.e. you may need additional criteria to make your selection that is non-min/max based)

Dwarves: Dwarves are a hardy race. They have a natural resistance to frost which is good. They have stoneform which is really good for PvE but not too good in PvP. (Anything that slows your movement down is bad in PvP). They can detect treasure (which is cool) but often a wasted skill since most dwarf warriors pick up mining which overrides your treasure finding skill (you have to toggle back and forth...it's a pain). Dwarves are a good PvE warrior.

Gnomes: These guys are really good in PvP and it has nothing to do with their racial abilities. They are very small...very very small compared to orcs and taurens. In a PvP raid they are hard to target and click. They hit just as hard as anyone else and that along with them being hard to click on makes them nasty in PvP. They also get arcane magic resistance which is good. Their escape artist will help them escape frost nova in the new patch. They are a little weak when it comes to PvE.

Humans: Humans get peception which makes them rogue killers. Rogues are a big pain in the rear in this game because they can stealth. I played L2 for more than a year and if you have any horrible flashbacks to the age of daggers, a human warrior is a good bet to be a rogue killer. They have bonuses for swords and maces which give them a slight upperhand if you use those weapons. Humans are good with PvP and PvE. They have no natural resistances to magic making magic-based enemies their biggest problem.

Night Elves: NE warriors have a good PvP tactic that utilizes their stealth ability. They stealth and when the enemy is close and unsuspecting they can charge. It's a really good combination. NE make a very good choice on PvP servers because no matter what class you pick, you can stealth (you can't move though). It makes it a little easier to run to the bathroom in dangerous territory. They get nature resistance and a +1% to dodge. They are possibly the best warrior the alliance has to offer.

Alliance Overall: Night elves and Humans are most popular races. Most people play them and it can be quite frustrating when all you see are NE and humans. A gnome and a dwarf are more unique and if this is important then consider it.

Orcs: Natural stun/knockdown resistance. This is an awesome racial ability and useful in PvE and PvP. Stun/Knockdown drives me nuts and an orc warrior (my preferred choice) is the best way to minimize being stunned/knocked down. However, some people say it's bugged and doesn't work. I am not convinced either way. They get axe specialization which adds a little oompf near end-game. Blood Fury is a two-edged blade (forgive the pun). It is semi-useful but will often result in your own death. Orcs make good PvP and PvE warriors.

Taurens: Possibly the best tanks in the game because of their hit point boost and size. They can take a deal of punishment and their size attracts attention in PvP. They are similar to the destroyer of L2 in that they can take a lot of punishment. The war stomp is nice as well but isn't too effective in PvE but can turn the tide in PvP since it might allow you time to bandage yourself. Taurens also get nature resistance. Taurens make good PvP but better PvE warriors.

Trolls: Most people don't have a high opinion of trolls, but I think they are a misunderstood lot. Their skills lend themselves to a fury-based warrior. If you don't know, a fury based warrior often dual wields and is primarily a DPS warrior. Berserker can really put out some damage but you have to take a critical hit to activate it. This isn't so bad for warriors since they have a ton of hit points. Also, fury based warriors have many skills that trigger off of a critical hit. Also they regenerate faster than other races and unlike other races, they regenerate a little bit in battle too. This reduces the load on a healer. Trolls that know their roll can help a party in PvE but might find their life short in PvP.

Undead: As mentioned previously, Will of the Forsaken is a very powerful PvP ability. Over many months I've heard cries to nerf it, but I doubt it will happen. This makes them deadly in PvP against casters. Cannabalize is nice, but it's a pain to rely upon humanoid victims to heal yourself. It's easier to use first aid or eat food. They also get shadow resistance which is nice, but not necessarily any nastier than fire, cold, or nature based damage. They also are able to hold their breath for a long time making a jump in the water an easy way to avoid being ganked...your aggressors can't hold their breath as long and have to come up to air allowing you to continue swimming and escape. Undead are also the smallest race of the horde giving them a similar advantage as a gnome where in they are hard to click on and taurens and orcs often draw fire first due to their size. Overall, Undead warriors are good in PvP but a little weak for PvE.

Horde Overall:
The cool thing about most horde races is their size. The exception is the undead which are not necessarily as impressive in their girth as they are freakish and scary. No one wants to see themselves being eaten by undead even if they are in spirit form. Weapons and armor look really impressive due to their size on a tauren and orc. I think most will find that orcs and taurens are the dominant choices for warriors on the horde side making a troll warrior or undead warrior a bit more rare.

----------------------------------------------

I have many reservations about some races. For example, I don't like playing taurens because I can't distinguish them easily. They all look alike to me. Not everyone feels this way. Similarly, all gnomes cause my eyes to glaze over as they seem to be very flat static characters. There is a lot of variety in many of the other races. I try to keep away from night elves simply because people play them for the eye candy value. It's like dark elves in L2....everyone liked how they looked and people got bloody bored of seeing 20 million dark elves running around.

Horde characters tend to be more competitive and driven to excel in combat and strategy whereas alliance based players are more apt to get into the roles of their character and roleplay. I've been on numerous servers where alliance outnumbered the horde but the horde was so much more organized than the alliance it was pathetic.

Other nuisances and interesting fun quirks:

With a dwarf you get to drink a lot and talk about drinking. It's kinda funny.

Trolls have possibly the best jokes in the game and they have a fun lively accent.

Taurens have a really neat society and their main city is amazing.

Undead males have a rock awesome dance

Night elves swim like a dolphin ;)

Human Males (no matter their profession) look like they pump iron and were smacked one too many times in the face with the ugly branch.

Taurens are just huge...it's hard to explain but it's a lot of fun when you stand next to a gnome. muhahahha

Im strictly horde but trying alliance pvp on some alts a little...I see the community mind set differences already.

And yes people roleplay it seems more on a pvp than a RP...but with a pvp twist.  It does annoy me though that it seems the worst of our community are drawn to play allies....

I have had more people conflicts in my first week on crushridge alliance than i ever had in months of daggerspine horde. Must be more children like to play alliance...meh

It's funny how you mention alliance have the numbers..but horde organized more...I will tell you why.

Since ive been horde since november launch....I have noticed alliance has more people=more will be higher level than we have...which means we get raided often by those ahead of the general population.

All those TM gankigns picking up around december have created a mean streak in horde...and a sense of "Revenge Once I am 60"......and its funny you say organized..but im afraid Alliance created the underdog to organize and given us more fuel to fire up our revenge fever.

I find it hillarious when allies get nailed in hillsbrad 2-3 50+ show up killing lvl 20s....once we shout the level ranges you would see a organized lvl 60 group rush in and camp them out from horde.....because we ALL recall getting beat down every 30 min at the farm at lvl 20 by some ahole lvl 35+.

Organized I dont know...I think we are a monster of alliance creation.  Since you all had the head start on raiding us...griefing us....you only created a horde community more driven to come together to kill alliance.
