Are shamans more caster or more melee? I heard they can go both ways depending on the player, but they seem like a caster to me..would a melee shammy be good in PvP?

I played a warrior in OB.. I sorta enjoyed it, but I was hoping maybe Shammy had more to offer..

Shamans are good in PvP. They are weak vs certain classes but overall they hold their own.

I liked the Shaman because as long as you conserved your mana or had a few mana potions you could wade into melee and do just fine. Granted, once a Shaman runs out of mana they have a much rougher time of meleeing. Easy way to conserve mana in a fight .... Pull with a lightning or 2, throw down a Stoneskin and Fire Totem and melee away. Add in a Shock or 2 if needed (GREAT against casters) rinse repeat. At level 23 I was soloing pretty much everything I could find that was up to lvl 26.

Tomorrow my Shaman will be reincarnated :)

I didn't start my shaman until the end of beta so didn't get to the talents, but I believe there are trees for melee and for spells. So if you want to be a nuker you can get the lightning talents, or you can take the melee talents and focus on that. I think overall they are more caster, with heals, buffs and totems, but those can be used to support yourself in melee. They are kinda like paladins.

With rockbiter weapon I was hitting with my mace for higher then most warriors my level, so I took advantage of that and stayed primarily melee. I'd pull with lightning, and engage with melee, throwing in a shock to interupt casting or add damage, and healing if I needed it. Totems can be placed too, but they used a lot of mana so I only used them if I was in a really tough fight.

Reincarnation isn't that good. Only purpose is when your whole group gets wiped in an instance when you're far in. Because of 10 min ressurection sickness.

shammy's r melee/caster's not caster/melee  in a typical fight the amount of damage done is going to be about 65% or more melee especially when u get windfury with a 2hander and 30 or so %nuke damage so u do the math:)
