Look here for some of the recipes you could make with leatherworking
http://www.thotbott.com/?t=Leatherworking

Option 1 - It looks like for a lvl 21 you could make stuff up to around leatherworking 130 and wear it. See if you like the things you could make. Tailoring is fine, but you are going to want to wear leather not cloth.

Option 2 - Pick up another gathering profession instead. Sell what you gather at the auction house to get money to buy more armor at the auction house. Get some good greens. Don't spend too much trying to get blues at lower levels from the AH since you will soon level past them. Do some looking on the web and try to find where some blues drop that you could go after by doing a dungeon or quest.

Have fun, and it is ok to try a profession, then drop it for another. Also if you have alts you can put different professions on each of them.

Dadanox - lvl 60 Hunter
Wahu - Lvl 60 Priest

Best to stick with the gathering professions until at least the 40s for the money.

I started out as a skinner/leather working... I never once made anything that I used myself and couldn't really sell any of it either.

For leveling herb/alchemy, pvp mining/engineering, and for money mining/skinning/herb in my opinion.

Stick with stuff to make you $$. You can always buy your gear from high lvl LW's.

I wouldn't do tailoring because it can't really upgrade your armor as much as leatherworking. With leatherworking you can make some good blue armor such as Barbaric Bracers, which if you make them for yourself could last you from 27-37(just an estimate).Barbaric bracers can also make you a good amount of money, I've seen it sell for around 5 gold. Plus you can create armor kits which add certain amounts of armor to your outfit. Really, if your wanting to improve your armor stick to leatherworking. But as stated above you should start off with gathering professions to earn you a decent amount of gold in your early levels. :) Hope that helps.
