Master Looter Posts: 2210 Joined: 21 Jan 2004 | fishing isn't tough. And the fish you do need are fished up in easy zones like Silverpine NE shore.... Alchemy will be very usefull for you. I like engineering myself. For Pvp reasons. Eq2-burned the Dvd |

Master Looter Posts: 2210 Joined: 21 Jan 2004 | Blackoily mouth is fished up in the Teen zones....Like silverpine forest. Just go over to the NW shore by the ocean or the lake lodereon ...I prefer the ocean...black oily mouths pull up there often enough....and being non contested...safe fishing. Eq2-burned the Dvd |
Ding! (Grats!) Posts: 48 Joined: 19 Feb 2005 | I'm having the same problem here - what to go for? My interests are mainly PvPing... I don't care about gold income, since my way of thinking is that eventually you will have enough gold for everything anyway... The question is what is better - Engeneering or Alchemy... Alchemy has some cool potions and salves (things like Rejuvenation Pots, and that 300 Alch potion that gives +160 spell damage), but as much as I understand - everyone can use those potions, just buy them... Are there any useful alchemists only pots or items? Engeneering on the other side is a pretty selfish profession - it seems to be great for PvPing, since Shadow Priests (this is my aim - PvP USP) seem to lack utility spells (besides the unreliable fear) and stuff like stunning grenades (which also give Priest an AoE abilities he lacks) and movement affecting effects - this seems to complete a priest and close all of his "skill holes" (lack of AoE and escape/snare abilities). If high level alchemy potions are avaible to non-alchemists, then I see no reason to go for alchemy, since as alchemist you might have a non-stop supply of premium pots, but you will not be able to use engeneering items, while if you are going into Engeneering - you will still be able to use all of the PvP benifits of Alchemy (you will be able to drink any alchemy pots) - this will be a gold drain, but you will have like EVERYTHING... So here are the questions... 1. Can non-alchemist use all of the Alchemy potions? If no, then what potions are alchemist only? 2. Are the "high-end" potions and flasks "avaible" to the non-alchemists? (Meaning, is it hard/impossible to find ones for sale on 13k people server?) 3. Are there any alchemist-only items? Thnks for answers in advance! [Edited by Ebisu at 3:23 PM on 7/29/2005] |
Dungeon Crawler Posts: 677 Joined: 13 Jan 2004 | First off in my opinion Alch/herb is more powerful then engin 1. Can non-alchemist use all of the Alchemy potions? If no, then what potions are alchemist only? Yes i dont think there arent any others cant use (i dont give them away often lol) but some potions to buy would cost about 20 gold a piece while being able to make it for a coupe gold - huge diff 2. Are the "high-end" potions and flasks "avaible" to the non-alchemists? (Meaning, is it hard/impossible to find ones for sale on 13k people server?) Honestly you wont find them. the higher end ones are so hard to make and rare to have that, any alch i know would only sell if you were a freind and even then maybe lke 1 or 2 for 50 or more gold. the higher lvl potions will be a decideing factor in duels or pvp - Oh look shadow priest drink a potion your immune for an hour up to 3000 k dmg with a 2 min retimer - oh look your first whole bar of mana is useless if they arent alch or dont have heavy mana potions they die no contest - there are mahy potions like this that do similiar thing to other classes 3. Are there any alchemist-only items? Yes we have alchemist stones, we can make iron into gold and such . [Edited by tracedimage at 3:40 PM on 7/29/2005] |
Master Looter Posts: 2210 Joined: 21 Jan 2004 | For PVP Engineering is the one for that particular setting. IF I didnt have 300 enchant on my rogue..I would switch.....i really want that profession now that I am lvl 60 for a while. A rogue with engineering omg lol....lay some mines behind the allies...sneak out.....=p Geting my sheep bomb up and walk around redridge i stealth to have some curious lowbee run up to the sheep to only have it blow up =p Mind control helm =)....would love that in BRD chain..sit on the chain in stealth wait for some idiot to come by...MC him off =) oh the fun of engineering....so wish I did that..but im vested in Enchanting...and enchanting really is majorly beneficial gear wise. Ding! (Grats!) Posts: 48 Joined: 19 Feb 2005 | Hmm... this means that I should take Engeneering on my priest, since I plan on Shadow Priest as my main PvP character... After I will get to 60, I will make another char with Alchemy to supply my main... Seems like a neat idea... the question left is will Shadow Priest satisfy my end game PvP needs (provided he will be a engeneer with greatest alchemy pots mulet from a secodary alchemist char)? Simply put - will Undead Shadow Priest with full Engeneering and alchemy support will be a PvP master? I am sort of a mad PvP elitist - caught the fever from NwN and RO ;) Ultimate powers FTW... P.S. Heh... with my luck, Shadow Priests will be nerfed into oblivion and engeneering items will become usable by non-engeneers... |
Ding! (Grats!) Posts: 48 Joined: 19 Feb 2005 | Oh... BTW, what about dispel? As much as I know - it can kill any alchemy buff... is that so? |
Dungeon Crawler Posts: 677 Joined: 13 Jan 2004 | It gets rid of one effect and i think (i could be wrong) i think it will target your fist effect applied to your character cause i will lose Gift if the Wild -all the time - honeslty though not many people use dispel, for the mana and even though its an instant its still an action and when you are dipeling and i am moonfireing, lol you can dispel all you want cause while your doing that ill win lol - but yes it can remove a potion effect, honeslty if someoen is worrying and taking the time to dispel all that does is make them lose control - kinda like chess you are forcing them to make an action when normally they would do something else that alone can win pvp .And potions if you go herb alch are very afforadable and most last for and hour or more - i really recommend going to thottbot.com and looking at the list and see the stat potions :) and the dmg reduction and the posion removal which is the bain of rogues lol As a shadow priest this is going to rape you if they have it Greater Shadow Protection Potion [Edited by tracedimage at 5:19 PM on 7/29/2005] |
Ding! (Grats!) Posts: 48 Joined: 19 Feb 2005 | Actually I think Shadow Priest has the best way to counter any potion effect than any other class out there... After all Dispel is a instant cast, low mana spell without cooldown, that removes 2 (not 1) benefitical effects from enemy or 2 harmful effects from a friend/self (BTW, it dispels Moonfire DoT and Entangle too :p)... In like 1-2 seconds you can dispel 4 benefitical effects from enemy incluiding potions... not bad... http://www.thottbot.com/?sp=988 All this means that a Priest is actually the only character (other than Shaman with their Purge and Warlock felhunter) that can effectively counter alchemist buffs... Speaking of chess - alch (or potted) priest/shaman can even gain sort of "higher ground" against non-dispelling enemies by dispelling enemy's pot effects while having their own pot effects intact... this can lead to some serious advantage for the priest. Heh... yet another arguement for choosing Shadow Priest to be main PvP char - dispel will make a lot of people cry... Thanks for the discussion... [Edited by Ebisu at 6:25 PM on 7/29/2005] |
Dungeon Crawler Posts: 677 Joined: 13 Jan 2004 | See i am a pvp druid so priests dont scare me - at my lvl i usually have about 10-14 buffs on at a time between my class and alch - it would take a priest reallistically 4-5 seconds in irl time to all the way de buff me all the while i am spamming moonfire for 400+ dmg every .5 secs irl time - ill take dmg over losing buffs i can insta cast back - I dont know i do play on a pvp server and i have never seen anyone dispel a buff i have seen people dispel a harmful effect - but usually epecially in raids you have 20 + buffs to dispel would be a waste of time vrs what they could do to you in the same time - Also dispel doesnt always work i have noticed there is a miss chance - I think the spell should be powered up personally its great in pve but in pvp its just not worth it . just my thoughts |

I'm choosing the profession for my undead priest now and I can't choose which combo I want, Alchemy/herbalism or mining/engineering. I've never played a character with either of these combos and I was wondering if anyone liked one of these specific builds in particular. Both seem to be good choices but I'm at a stand still. Is either of these more interesting or fun?
If you can help thanks.
