Shadow is very good for soloing, leveling, and pvp. Holy is pretty much required for any high end raiding (Molten Core, Onyxia, and to a lesser extent Stratholme, Scholomance, and Blackrock Spire)

Not really. Thats the point of having multiple talent trees, you have to choose, and that really affects how your character ends up. So there is a large difference between a shadow and a holy priest, a difference between a frost and an ice mage, etc.
The best abilities are usually further down on the tree, so if you try to get both shadow and holy in large amounts, you end up missing the best of each.

I agree with him. I would go mostly shadow until level 20 and get mind flay, after that switch to holy/discipline (whichever you feel is more important, holy for me) and then at level 57+ whenever you feel comfortable go all out holy and discpline because it will be so much better for you.

I am a Shadow/Disc Priest and think that it is great, I can PVP all classes (win most :P).

I heal just fine in DM, Strat, Scholo, UBRS, and heal in MC as a back-up. I have people asking me into groups all the time. Again 1 Holy MC healer cant do much. The way we run things its 2 priests ta 1 tank and we have back-ups for a rotation, it works for us.

Play how you like, I will not say that one is better for you then the other but find that most Priests have some Disc in there build.

I was a Shadow Priest untill I hit lvl 50, After 2 weeks of my Holy respec I hated it, so after reading many posts on the bliz site(see link below)I found out alot more about Disc and the combo build's (Holy/Disc and Shadow/Disc) and went to Shadow/Disc. There is a great tri build too that you might want to try.

Have fun with your priest :) remember its your game and people that tell you how to play should play there own hero.

If your a shadow preist fighting pvp and they are an alchemist your are so screwed you will not win they will be immune to everything for the whole battle and holy is not a pvp tool but very useful in higher lvl instances -

Again I say   BLAH if you cant PvP your Priest.

If you dont want to PvP or you suck at it go Holy.

I am not a master player but I do alright.

personaly what i did with my Priest, who is lv 60, is i was a Shadow/Disc till 60 the respeced to Holy/disc. much easier to PvP and hunt as a Shadow, than it is as a Holy. but that is IMO.

shadow ftw. but if you wish to go holy at the end i would suggest shadow up until you start doing the ~55+ instances. before you start doing that go holy/disc and learn how to heal. there is a big difference when you start raiding. i stayed shadow and can heal 5/10 man runs with little problem. but 20+ is almost impossible for me. i just am not a pure healer.

Take shadow to 60 and then respec holy/disc. Contrary to popular belief, healing in PvP IS fun

Shadow for soloing; and most raid content (if you got your PvE gearready). Great from pvp; but good luck hiding behind a rock with Mind-flay ratting you out; but like a warlock you can watch your enemies die on you.....after your dead. But not having as strong dots as a warlock; a simple pot can keep up an enemy after you're dead.

Holy (if you want to 'out-live' an opponent; but know that is only effective against a one-on-one pvp-encounter; and lasts a long fight)

Discpline_PI/Smite spec.....requires a high lvl of +dmg gear; much like a fury-specc'd warrior....to be effective. Can be great in pvp; burst damage that can help kill the most unsuspected opponent; can hide behind large objects and nuke around without being found.

the post by Info is pretty much right. The better your pve healing gear, the easier it is to just stay shadow spec and still heal perfectly fine in endgame. I have experience up to AQ40 of healing with just 2 points in Holy. Moving more towards DPS'ing in raids in shadowform these days, though...
