So I just created a NightElfPriest last night.  I had been using a UndeadPriest for a couple days before this, but my RL friend told me he is on the Alliance side of the server, so I had to start over and switch sides.

How many of you have tried different Races of Priests, and which did you enjoy the most?  Benefits vs. Drawbacks?

It really depends on your play style. Base racial stats really just don't matter that much, but some of the racial spells for priests are nice.

For Holy I would recomend a Night Elf, Star Shards is what I use on my Holy spec priest to replace Mind Flay. For Sadow Spec take a look at the other races and see which you like. Humans have a nice lil save my butt skill, ok for PvP.

Also, Shadowmeld for a priest is just mean in PvP. If you ever bite off more than you can chew just Scream and run behind a hill to Meld.

Just to chime in, humans and dwarves have the nice self-only mana-free instant-cast hyphen-laden Desperate Prayer which helps alot. The Night Elf shadowmeld is very handy and their racial DoT helps tons for those that don't specialize in Shadow Magic.

In PVP battles (the only PVP I'm familiar with), the Dwarf fear ward buff is in extremely high demand, and the Night Elf ranged attack defense buff (name?) is pretty handy too. Humans have the stealth detection ability which is very nice since, in mass PVP, rogues are usually gonna go for priests. Priest's damage output isn't all that important in the mass PVP as your casting range will be too short and you'll spend most of your time healing people--and yourself--anyhow.

Aye, I love my Night Elf priest. As another stated Starshards is a good move. But I also like elf for their shadowmeld, in some cases its an awesome PvP move! Hide from the horde! Genius!

lol i like alliance because when u get to lvl 30 u get a nice spell called mind control. go to 1000 needles near the barrens and there is a huge cliff. this is a really nice spell to have there :) i had so much fun. however my friend plays on horde so i changed an am a troll now. only because i like the look of em in shadow form :P. theyr the only reasons i can give for each of the races. so as you can see, there arent any real reasons.

I rolled an undead priest and he is currently at level 30. I like Devouring Plague that Undead get. Its a nice DoT that heals you in the process. And plus, I'm on a RP server and he is a Shadow Priest...NE's really dont cast images of being Shadow Priests...just my opinion. But pick whatever taste suits you. You get Starfire (i think) as a NE Priest, which is a really cool talent. And you also get Elunes grace (its been a while since I played my NE Priest, but i think those statements are true).

Good luck in whichever you chose.

I say you should choose NE, starshards is a powerful spell, just use Power Word: Shield so you can channel. Shadowmeld helps a lot too. If you're in a dangerous place and the rest of your group is dead, shadowmeld, and rez. Shadowmeld wont uncast if you start casting a spell... until the spell is finished. I think that a Night Elf priest would be best.
