I'm building a troll hunter right now and I'm wondering which skills will be the best to compliment it. I was a shammy before and he wore leather so skinning and leatherworking were best, but hunter is a totally new thing for me and I don't know which would be the most help to me and my character.

I have Engineering/Mining. Its a lot of fun. Like shamans, hunters can use mail armor at 40, so you will get less use out of leatherworking once you hit the high levels.

Mining and Smithing would be a good choice too. You can make your own weapons and once yo uget past 40 you can make armor for yourself.

At high Leatherworking you can go Dragonscale, which you can make mail armor with.

engineering is way too expensive and i honestly did not like it. Chi is right, you can go dragonscale with leatherworking which makes it a viable choice. I am going Skinning/mining because i love gold...and lots of it. Made the whole getting the mount thing extremely easy. i'm rarely in a shortage of lots of gold. just a thought... :GRIN:

I'm a troll hunter engineer and I love it. I can make my own guns (I've made several to tide me over between blues). I can make my own ammo, which is better than anything you can buy from NPCs. I have made good head gear at lower levels. I can make lots of nice trinkets that give me the edge in pvp. I can't count how many times my eng trinkets have saved me. My dragonling is great when I look a little overpowered. My jumper cables have saved time wiping in instances.
Anyway, engineering gives a hunter a serious edge if you are willing to put the time and money into it. If you're lazy and don't feel like spending the time on making money the hard way to pay for it then you're probably best not bothering.

Yep Engineering or bust....gimp ammo unless you engineer...and I love the mana grenade....toss that sucker at an mana user..watch them lose 600-1000 mana in one boom...then mana sting them....outa commission.

That is a great shaman killer also...toss that down...you just screwed over mr shaman.

Now i chose goblin engineering...I love bombs myself....you can also purchase the gnome helm from a different engineer too.....since it only requires engineering skill vs having gnome skills....that MC helm is worth it for a hunter.

How many times have you been jumped mid pull by a rogue....MC him to the nearest set of mobs...break off MC and serpent sting him...end of rogue.  And I very much doubt he will come back for more after the MC.

MC= Mind Control

Rocket helm is usefull also...stunem...fein deith..drop your trap.... get some range...blast them...fein death again drop trap...rinse and repeat^^.

Engineering is highly usefull in PVP.  Its also a way to keep yourself supplied with 17.5 dmg ammo. At high level you can exchange for thorium arrows so even if you do use bows in the end..yous till can get the better ammo.

Personally I Love to play dead with my pet stealthed and sheep bomb out...people love to look at the sheep^^ then it goes BOOM!...raise up sick pet....intimidate ...=p   ...just purely funny......I use it on SM people...playing dead by the Stone...let some curious lvl 35 ally walk up to my body witht he sheep out^^....

I believe they have a big laugh also...cause i sometimes just raise up point and laugh....and I see them laughin at me for using the sheep...

Engineering= Fun job to use

Money Is made by just selling ore....ores sell fast also.......arcanite crystals+transmute= 25 gold in your pocket.

I seriously suggest that ALL hunters read this article:
http://wow.allakhazam.com/db/guides.html?guide=472

And if you do, you will understand why this is the best hunter build:
http://www.worldofwarcraft.com/info/classes/hunters/talents.html?5500300150501051501510305000000000000000000000

Basically, this guy did an exhastive search of all possible hunter builds to find the one with the highest DPS, and that is basically it!

That is too closed minded view of being a hunter for me. High End Dps isnt always good for every situation.

The cookie cutter templates piss me off cause it may be a very tweaked build for dps....but isnt the only good build.   Dmg parsers never include my pet...which annoys me.

I love my Beast spec...a lot.  Watching my pet pop off 350 hits 3-4 times in a row in seconds...before aimed even fires off...I still can equate to a very high end crit from the Marks/survival build.

Also utillity wise....in ubrs runs...My pets (i use 3) have there purpose....6+k def tank pet....or my dps pet purely for dmg...all have there place.  You may be dishing out DPS on a single target...I can tie down mobs (elites) with my pet tanking like a warrrior.....and mutlitask with my pet and gun to control chaotic pulls.

I used to be a marksman spec....I see a tremendous difference in play style from BM to Marks specs....I wouldnt fall into simple minded builds.  The hunter is way more versitile than to be stuck "Tunnel Visioning" on one build purely for focused DPS.   The hunter can do much more than just dmg....

This goes the same for the old Rogue cookie cutter dagger builds...i recall how they braged about being the best build...yah what ever I usualy am #1 or 2 in ubrs runs with rogue in dps....in pvp I beat the crap out of 99% of the rogues I one on one with.

The point: other builds can work and work very well. Dont Tunnel vision.

Hey, here's an idea, read before you criticize. This guy did two types of builds, one with pet and one without pet. The one with pet takes the pet's damage into account when calculating total dps. He concludes that a beast master build has highest dps. He does this through a searching algorithm trying almost all possible builds and making logical assumptions where needed. In any case, this build is a beast mastery/marksman build, so why are you arguing that a beast master build is better?!

That guys isnt koneg then.  I thought you linked Clo1 or Konegs allakahzaam dps build.

Marksman Survival build.  Allakahzam wasnt accessable from here for me yesterday.  But a pretty popular hunter template was developed by a guy named clo1 and koneg.  One of them had made a very good template that was across 2 boards. Thats the link I thought you referenced.

oh well glad it wasn't a link to there builds they calculated out.  ANd the dps build that I saw quoted wasnt marks ABM....it was Marks/survival.

so before yah get huffy and puffy...that's what I thought you linked...the most popular build the old Marks survivalist.
