Firstly, druids can be better healers than priests in the sense that on par, at equal level, their main healing spell repairs more damage.  However, it also costs more mana and so it may beless efficient than priests in the longer term.  A caveat to that is that some priests become shadow priests and their heals are so slow to cast that the patient need to say their own prayers because they're going to die.

That brings me to my second point, to be a good healer - druid, paladin, priest, shaman - is going to depend a lot on how you spend your talents.  That's so obvious, I'm not saying more.

Thirdly, healing causes aggro.  If you're in a group fighting mobs then the correct thing to do is to spam-heal.  This means not using your main heal except in emergencies.  Use regeneration and the other minor heal to keep the party alive.

Fourth, there are tactics about who you should heal.  This is going to vary depending on your group mixture.  Generally, you'll be spam healing the tank - unless he's bad then let him die :P - and won't worry about mages because they're expendable.  After tanks, you keep those who can ressurect alive; this includes you :)

Fifth, er, there is no fifth point I can think of.

Personally I disagree with some of the things said in this thread. I play both a priest (got her to levle 60) and a druid (just hit 40) My priest was shadow specced until late game when I realized that in order to be a better healer I needed to change to holy. She is almost full out holy spec with a splash of disc now. I love her. She has LOTS of mana (even though many times she needs to drink between fights depending on where we are) and can do a good job keeping her team alive.

I do not beleive that mages are expendable. It takes a LOT more mana and frustration to rez the mage and let them take a hit on armor than it does to try to keep them alive. If the mage is drawing too much agro, the mage needs to tone down his or her nukes. Better to take a little longer than to see the whole thing go sour. Mages should NEVER pull. At least not in cases whwere the fighting is touch and go. the tanks should ALWAYS pull and then let them get a few hits to build hate. THEN you can start nuking /healing, etc. without too much trouble. STAY IN THE BACK! Your spells can be cast from a distance. Do so.

Secondly, druids are not anywhere close to priests as healers. They are jack of all trades, but master of none. My druid is my favorite character, but she isn't as good at healing as my priest. Her mana pool goes MUCH faster, so she can dish damage to help out. She can play as if shes a rogue, but not as well as the rouge class. She can tank as a bear, but not as well as the warrior. But she CAN do a little of it all. Just don't count on her to heal a raid cause it ain't gonna happen.

Speaking of raids, the best stratagy I have seen so far iss for healers to pass off healing long before they get too low on mana. Also, get healix. You can set it up so that if the target has more than say, 20% health (you choose the amount) the heal is canceled and the mana doesn't get used. It also tells the party who you are healing and how long the cast will take. Pass healing this way: healers 1 and 2 heal the main tank until mana is at 50%, then healer 1 spams in party chat: "PASSING HEALING TO #3 AND 4 NOW!" Then 3 and 4 take over while 1 and 2 watch and regen. next 5 and 6 take it, passing back to 1 and 2. Wash, rinse, repeat.
