Power Leveler Posts: 3599 Joined: 29 Sep 2003 | My server (Sargeras) has never lagged for me other than when I'm in Ironforge. Like the previous poster said, it might be your computer/connection. |
Master Looter Posts: 2159 Joined: 30 Mar 2004 | My computer is plenty powerful, and occasionally I experience severe lag in very underpopulated areas, such as Blackrock Mountain a few days ago (so much so that something 10 levels under me killed me), and in Deadwind Pass this morning. |
Adventurer Posts: 232 Joined: 16 May 2004 | This brings me to my theory that lag effects higher levels worst because they carry extra pomposity. It is a natural delevelling of power-gamers that is akin to the expression: "the higher you climb, the harder you fall". |

I merely meant that to say that the lag was bad enough for the mob to sit there and pound on me for long enough that it killed me. Normal, minor lag + a level 50 mob isn't a problem. It takes SERIOUS lag for a level 50 mob, with the coded in miss rate of 10 levels difference, to hit me long enough to kill me and not have me able to do anything about it. |

At least once a day, sometimes twice, you can expect the server to undergo a period where people cannot ressurect themselves, Auction house and mail will be down, and often gathering herbs/metal will cause you to be stuck there. Playing at peak times, especially during the weekend, invites disaster. Even now I write this as the server was so badly lagged that it was clearly going to crash, so several group members decided it was best to log in hopes of avoiding having progress lost in a rollback, and I did so as well. My friends and I have had 3 of the last 5 of our get togethers interrupted by server crashes. It's getting old. But like alot of people, I'm still here because friends are still here. Many days I'd like to back out of WoW for a few months until they fix all this. Awesome game, too bad about the technical problems. |

My computer runs it great the only place I get lag at all is Ironforge. Can you give us a random location of where you are at if could be your connection also. just a couple thoughts. Also servers are going to crash and I say this again and again... This is there first MMO. They haven't had 5+ years to work it out and make it all happen. I do however believed they rushed it for the christmas sale season...

WarCry Choice Posts: 1135 Joined: 16 Oct 2004 | Ah there is your problem the BARE MINIMUM requirements is a 64mb card but that really doesn't run it well at all. they might say it will run it but as you said it will lag like crazy. could be mines, dungeons, caves, walking, sitting. Its just that video card probably can't handle the stress of the graphics.

Looking For Group Posts: 158 Joined: 22 Nov 2004 | Well I'm on Alleria and here it is the day after my previous post, 9:35pm...and the Eastern Continents are down and I can't get in. Again. My comp runs about 50-60FPS most places, and never gets below 23 even in Ironforge. My comp and my connection are clearly not the problem when my entire guild complains about the same problems at the same times. That, and my friends and I can't connect to get together :( Here I am, my kid is no longer sick and he's sleeping, I have a hour or two to play before bedtime, and no go. Being a computer programmer myself, and having worked on games myself, I feel for the people at Blizzard. Working on stuff like this is amazingly hard, much harder than most people would know and it involves a great deal of complexity that you have to deal with over long work hours and sometimes on very little sleep. Also, there's no doubt that some of these problems are exacerbated by the population imbalance and random attacks by people who'd give anything to be the ones to make the news for bringing down such a big game. I understand why it's hard to fix. But understanding still isn't helping me relax after a day of crying, vomiting kid. If my friends weren't committed to WoW I'd probably play something else until the problems were solved. |

Sorry that should have read Alleria's Eastern Kingdoms were down, as in the continent that has Ironforge, Stormwind, and Undercity on it. Sorry about the typo. Also, second day after my first post and the server crashed early today, at 8:57pm CST. Usually Alleria makes it to 9-9:30. Friends and I decided to try to get on early and beat the nightly crash, so we got a hour in Eastern Plaguelands and managed to get our hunter 3 spirits for a quest before the crash. Sucks, but it's the best we've gotten in 2 weeks. |
Looking For Group Posts: 158 Joined: 22 Nov 2004 | Woot 3:15pm next day Alleria is down again, after I was on only 20 minutes. Yah I'm mostly complaining, but also I want everyone to see how bad this problem is :( |

Master Looter Posts: 2210 Joined: 21 Jan 2004 | Advise to new players. 1. Create a permanent character durring peak hours and grab the LOWEST pop at the time in the western Hem evening is best time to find out whos the most packed and not. 2. Visit WoW forums and just ask about server stabillity on the realm board If you failed to do either....your stupid for randomly droping in a heavy pop server. Also to the original Poster.....They did stop making WoW to sell....but they still have a supply to use up so thats why some stores have the coppies.... If your server sux that badly....MOVE....simple as that. I noticed this problem 4 days into frostwolf on launch day....so i dumped my lvl 22 mage and moved over to Daggerspine ..which 1 week after launch was a new server and lowest pvp population on westcoast.... To this day we have not had one server emergency shutdown for extended times. Not like the rest of you guys who are complaining here on the boards. I have played many MMORPGs from retail and these issues your having are very SMALL in comparison to what I had to put up with for months. Lineage 2 ...saga of ryzom...star wars crapaxy, etc.......WoW has its issues....but nothing like Ryzom or L2 had. I think complaining and stating this is my last month is pathetic ....especially when you have not exausted your other options...Like moving to a lower pop server....if you havnt done that and still complain about your heavy pop server. Your an idiot ...please put the game down and never play again....less idiots the better for us. Eq2-burned the Dvd |

I did not randomly elect a high populated server...we simply selected a server at start that we had all previously agreed upon...so we could play together. nice assumption though. :) either way im at the point now that I dont feel like dumping all 42 levels of experience and starting over again. moving to another serving simply isnt that simple or worthwhile. My solution included creating multiple characters on multiple servers so i can play with them when my main server happens to be down for maintenance. i dont think this makes me an idiot :-P [Edited by flynnmj at 7:17 PM on 3/17/2005] |
Looking For Group Posts: 105 Joined: 9 Apr 2004 | There seems to be a lot of negativity towards people complaining about lag. Trust me... they have a right to complain about it. There have been serious hardware issues with about 20 realms and it's an ongoing struggle atm. Even after many many "fixes" things are still buggered. However, since the lasts week "hardware upgrade" on Cenarius - the lag has been... "less". But it's still there and still a detriment to the game. Also, No, I am not stupid and didn't select a high pop. server. I chose the "recommended server" at the time I started up WoW. The server pop was low and the game ran fine. REAL problems didn't develop until I was around lvl 30 or so and a month into it. Should I up and quit and re-roll on another server? No. So, I think everyone should just ease up. People get upset when they pay money for something "fun" and they're not actually having fun because of issues beyond their control. Still a good game.. I love it. However, I feel Blizzard really needs to do something to address these hardware issues. I feel they are trying - but maybe they lack the manpower to properly deal with it right now. /shrug Who knows. For those on the Realms with serious problems.. I feel for you! Just hang in there - they'll get it fixed sooner or later. :) |
Master Looter Posts: 2210 Joined: 21 Jan 2004 | Flyn, Look at the context of what I said "if your new player" not present or semi seasoned wow player. And there are exceptions like in your case...all your buddies on one server. My guild moved because I forsaw this present problem people suffer on retail launch popular servers....and I am darn glad we made our move early while it wasnt a huge issue. Character transfers is good thing that they NEEDED to do months ago.....like eq2 did within 1 month of launch. Wow waited too long. And now people are very vested in there characters....which pisses me off that they gave you all the too little too late solutions. Im just negative to the OP pathetic rant of how hes leaving after his trial is over...well hey stupid there are other servers and your not high level yet.....MOVE moron...save the crying for wow forums official boards... They are starting to carry over into warcry....go away cry babys.... most of you have good reason to complain...OP has a lame one...take a closer look at what he is saying ... hes in his 1st month....what a moron Eq2-burned the Dvd |
Apprentice Posts: 4 Joined: 21 Mar 2005 | With regard to server lag I have found that some servers are better than others. I have no idea how it works but I've found a server that rarely gets above a 100ms response and it's classed as high population this is pvp I have also another server I use for non pvp again low response times.. ..however on other servers the responses are 500+ my advise is level a character up on each to lvl 4 only should take about 10mins or so untill you come across a server that suits you.. I do still get frame rate reduction in high population areas like citys but hey I'm running on a borderline laptop so I can't complain :) Zug zug |
Apprentice Posts: 4 Joined: 18 Mar 2005 | I also play on Alleria and have to experience the daily dump. Luckily, we got through RFD last night and stoned out not 10 sec before the server crashed (about 10:20 or so CST). The Eastern Kindoms are very laggy, so I started to hang out in Kalimdor. Kinda sucks tho, because no one uses the AH in Gadgetzan...I feel your pain. I have a kid too and only get to play when she's asleep and it sucks when I can't even log in. Cogaput "Thanks for the advice Capt. Obvious, but I am farming lvl 25 mobs because Soul Dust is going for 4g a stack in the AH..." |

I've only played a week and already am thinking of not going past the initial month mainly because of server lag (a few other reasons as well but lag is, by far, the main reason). So tired of being killed off because I lag in an area and have a mob or 3 re-spawn right on top of me. Or trying to harvets a plant/metal and just being stuck there. Or... well you get the idea. Can't see how Blizzard could release more copies of the game when they have such a major problem with how it's running now. Oh wait, I know why they made more copies available: GREED.
