Stockades

by Caolinn, Human Priest, Thorium Brotherhood

The Stockades is an alliance instance, as it is located in the heart of Stormwind at the intersection of the Mage, Park and Trade Quarters. This instance will likely be the second you come to (unless you are playing a Night Elf, in which case you may head to Blackfathom Deeps second), as the quest line started by the letter found on VanCleef’s body in the Deadmines eventually leads here.

Though it is the second instance, it is somewhat akin to Ragefire Chasm for the Horde – a training instance. While there are many quests here, The Stockades are small and have little in the way of loot – unless you’re looking for wool. However, the levels for The Stockades are 24 – 32, making it impossible for use as training. The good thing about The Stockades is you’ll gain a lot of experience here, between the densely packed mobs and six quests to complete here.

I. Finding it

The Stockades are the prison located inside Stormwind and the corner of the Mage Quarter touching the Park, Cathedral Square and Trade Quarter.

II. Quests

The Color of Blood [26]
Description: “Bitterness flows through my veins like a cold river. My grandson, Mac, was such a good boy. A mere 14 years old. When the army was sent off to the front, Mac took up arms to defend the city. He was a guard in The Stockade, where the Defias gang is locked up. Mac reprimanded some of the prisoners for tearing their wool blankets to make scarves, a symbol of their gang. For that Mac was stabbed in the back.

I want revenge. Bring me 10 of their precious Wool Bandanas. They are the color of blood."

Objective: Nikova Raskol of Stormwind wants you to collect 10 Red Wool Bandanas.

How to: This one’s pretty self-explanatory. If you kill enough Defias in The Stockade, you’ll eventually collect 10 bandanas.

Bazil Thredd [22]
Description: “VanCleef and I were members of the Stonemasons Guild. Our main project was to rebuild Stormwind after the War.

When we had finished our duties, we were cheated. The nobles refused to pay us for our work. Some of the more senior of the Stonemasons were offered governmental jobs, but VanCleef refused it out of loyalty to all the Stonemasons. He led a riot and left the city, swearing revenge.

His lieutenant, Bazil Thredd, might know more about VanCleef's plans. He's being held prisoner in the Stockade.”

Objective: Speak with Warden Thelwater in the Stockade.

How to: Warden Thelwater is just inside the door of the Stockade from the Mage Quarter. Um, mosey on up and chat. This leads into “The Stockade Riots.”

Crime and Punishment [26]
Description: “As if the neglect for the residents of Duskwood was not bad enough, now the House of Nobles spits in the eye of the Darkshire Council with their decision to imprison Dextren Ward in Stormwind rather than behead the villain as per Lord Ebonlocke's sentence.

Ward was caught selling bodies from the cemetery to Morbent Fel, a crime punishable by death. Yet Stormwind claims Ward as their prisoner.

Assassinate Ward in The Stormwind Stockade - bring me his hand - and I shall reward you.”

Objectives: Councilman Millstipe of Darkshire wants you to bring him the hand of Dextren Ward.

How to: Dextren Ward is located in a room near the end of the west tunnel. The actual room changes, so you’ll have to poke around a bit to find him. Once you do, take out the mobs in the other two rooms first, watching out for runners, as they can make a huge mess for you and your group. It is important to get rid of the other rooms first, as Ward will Fear your party and send you running into the other rooms, pulling absolutely everyone. Yes, it is as big a mess as it sounds.

Ward is tough, but if any of your team are into PvP, the Alliance insignia at Corporal level, especially on your healer, will help immensely when he Fears. Remember to pick up the hand for the quest!

Quell the Uprising [26]
Description: “The uprising must be quelled! I need your assistance. If word gets out that the prison is overrun I will lose my job! This is a case of foul play if I've ever seen one. But what's important now is forcing these prisoners into submission for the safety of Stormwind.

The punishment for insurgency is death. Kill some of these deviants! That ought to get things under control.”

Objectives: Warden Thelwater of Stormwind wants you to kill 10 Defias Prisoners, 8 Defias Convicts, and 8 Defias Insurgents in The Stockade.

How to: As you and your group are traveling through The Stockade, you’ll run into plenty of these guys. It may take a run or two, but it’s not terribly hard to complete this one.

The Curious Visitor [29]
Description: “During the first years of Thredd's imprisonment, he never had any visitors. I figured that he was no longer of use to the Brotherhood, so they abandoned him.

Anyway, a few months ago, that all changed; he started to get regular visits ... once, maybe twice a week. It was a strange man – the quiet type. I had my suspicions, but all his papers checked out.

His documents claimed his name was Maelik; here's his description. I don't think he'll be coming to visit Thredd anymore.”

Objectives: Bring the Sealed Description of Thredd's Visitor to Baros Alexston in Stormwind.

How to: Take the sealed document to Baros Alexston. He is found in the City Hall to the right of the Cathedral (facing the front from outside) in Cathedral Square in Stormwind.

The Fury Runs Deep [27]
Description: “You have proven your loyalty to King Magni, . And your hatred for the Dark Iron scum is as great as my own.

There is a task I wish to complete myself but I am bound by honor to stay with Longbraid. But Roggo has gathered intelligence that proves Kam Deepfury was a conspirator in the attack on the Thandol Span. It was by Deepfury's planning that Longbraid lost his kin.

Deepfury is being held for political reasons in the Stormwind Stockade. I want him dead, . For Longbraid! Bring me his head!”

Objectives: Motley Garmason wants Kam Deepfury's head brought to him at Dun Modr.

How to: Find Kam Deepfury in the eastern wing (right-hand side), usually in one of the rooms to the north (left off of wing). Pull the others in the room first and deal with Deepfury alone. This quest is a little difficult for the assigned level so will prove difficult at lower levels, not worth it at higher.

The Stockade Riots [29]
Description: “Let's get one thing straight, : I don't trust you. But, with the situation as it is, you probably won't make a difference.

So here's how it's going to be: go down there and have your talk with Thredd. If you're really on our side, then kill him and bring me his head when the job's done. And if it turns out you're on his side, and don't come out... when we find you, you'll die along with the rest of the maggots.”

Objectives: Kill Bazil Thredd and bring his head back to Warden Thelwater at the Stockade.

How to: Bazil Thredd is generally located in one of the three rooms at the end of the eastern tunnel. He has guards, but pull carefully, know he has a ton of health and you’ll be fine.

What Comes Around… [25]
Description: “Targorr the Dread served under Gath'Ilzogg as supreme Executioner. His methods were ruthless, even by filthy Orc standards. Men who fought bravely to defend the Kingdom were tortured on his whim. Now he is being held in the Stormwind Stockade, sentenced to die. Yet something is amiss. One of the bureaucratic nobles put a hold on his execution. I am sure foul play is in the works.

Put an end to Targorr the Dread, . Travel to The Stockade and behead him before trickery is upon us.”

Objectives: Bring the head of Targorr the Dread to Guard Berton in Lakeshire.

How to: Targorr is usually in the room at the northern end of the north-south main hallway of The Stockades. He supposedly is found elsewhere, but I’ve only ever seen him in the room at the end. He’s not too tough, just pull carefully – the motto of this instance – and you’ll be fine.
